SFC Launches New Film Development Initiatives

Dear Friends of SFC,


The Singapore Film Commission (SFC) is proud to unveil two new film development initiatives today.


The first initiative is the Script Development Grant. Through this new scheme, the SFC aims to encourage and support our film scriptwriters who have the talent to tell good stories by helping them develop their ideas into full-length feature film scripts that are ready for production.


The quantum for each grant is up to $6,000 and SFC expects to award up to 16 grants per year. This scheme will consider applications twice a year, and the deadlines for submission of applications each year are 31 January and 31 July each year. Therefore, interested applicants are reminded that the deadline coming up is 31 January 2004.

The second initiative is the Film Incubator Programme. This is a collaboration between SFC and Media Hive Pte Ltd, and supported by Canon Marketing (Singapore). Through this programme, SFC and Media Hive seeks to provide first-time filmmakers with the resources, facilities and mentorship by experienced industry practitioners for the development and production of feature film content for local and overseas distribution.


Each year, a maximum of 5 emerging filmmakers will be selected to turn their scripts into a feature film. Selected filmmakers will be provided with a S$100,000 production budget to shoot and complete their films on Digital Video (DV). Half of the funding provided will be in cash and the remaining half in facilities and consultancy.


Applications are now open for the FIP, which will consider projects throughout the year. Interested applicants can contact Media Hive to follow-up.

At the same time, the SFC is also introducing new guidelines for the Short Film Grant to include a new category for documentaries. Therefore, the Short Film Grant will now consider applications for two categories: (i) Documentary and (ii) Drama/ Fiction. Interested applicants can refer to the SFC website for further details.
